Free-form lenses in surveillance cameras allow for lower-distortion images at wide angles and better low light performance when compared with other low-distortion modules. These cameras are used in street surveillance, officer surveillance, aerial surveillance etc, which enables more intelligent and efficient monitoring to be processed centrally. ynaOptics' free-form lenses can optimize an image for specific areas of interest. In most facial recognition cameras, the camera's field of field is not always trained on "useful areas" such as the floor, or ceiling. Imagine if just the key areas of an image was of extremely high-quality, then each face would now made up of many more pixels of higher-quality. Image recognition would get a whole lot better.
Reducing the Number of Surveillance Cameras
Imagine a wide-angle low distortion camera that can now provide the same quality information, but with fewer cameras. This reduction in cameras enables cost savings from a hardware standpoint and also reduces the number of video streams that have to be monitored, analyzed and stored.
